So many of you have asked when I was going to write a book.
Well.
Here it is.
Heart: An Owners Guide.
This book is a tactical guide for anyone looking to:
Better understand what heart disease is.
How to assess their risk of heart disease.
How to reduce their risk of heart disease.
This book was born out of my frustration with not being able to spend more time with patients explaining the above concepts.
Usually, what my patients needed was a simple explanation of the core aspects of heart health.
This book is my attempt to do that.
If I had much more time with each of my patients this is what I would be telling them.
When I meet someone who asks me lots of questions about ‘Heart Health’, these are the key points I would like to get across.
Additionally, this is a book for anyone who wishes to put in place the model of care that I use and do so with their own doctor.
This is where I believe this book is most useful.
Heart disease is complex, but heart disease prevention is not.
You just have to know the ingredients and how to implement them.
That is what this book is intended to achieve.
So what can you expect to see inside?
Here are a list of some of the topics covered:
What is ‘Heart Disease’?
The Role Of Insulin Resistance.
Understanding your Cholesterol Blood Test Panel.
Advanced Lipid Testing: ApoB & Lipoprotein (a).
Lifestyle Approaches To Preventing Heart Disease.
How to assess fitness (V02 Max etc.).
How to assess visceral fat and lean mass.
Understanding the role of Cardiac CT in assessing coronary artery disease.
How to use lifestyle measures to reverse coronary artery disease.
The role of medications when lifestyle measures are not enough.
And more…
The book is written in such a way that each topic is covered in two pages with helpful diagrams to explain concepts.
This book is not a scientific treatise on cardiovascular disease written in dry, difficult-to-understand language like many science or medical books are.
This book is written (hopefully) in a way that is easy to understand and use.
This book is mostly for all of those people I will never get to meet, but hopefully, I will get to help better understand heart disease and, as a result, prevent it from being an issue for them early in life.
So when is it out?

Paddy
