The Course You Asked For Is Underway
An update on where things are with the heart disease prevention course
This July, thousands of you said that you wanted me to produce a course that would synthesise best practices for:
Understanding heart disease.
Assessing your risk.
Maximally reducing that risk.
Thousands of you completed a questionnaire addressing your objectives and obstacles in addressing cardiovascular risk.
Although there were many and varied responses, the primary message was that most of you:
Are concerned about your future risk of heart disease because of a risk factor or family history of heart disease.
Are frustrated with the standard model of healthcare that seems to only react when you have progressed to the point of having serious heart disease.
Are finding it hard to get enough time with your doctor to get adequate explanations of how to address and manage risk.
Are unable to get your doctors to discuss more advanced risk assessment tools, including insulin resistance assessment, fitness testing, advanced lipid testing or, cardiac CT, etc.
All of this is a solvable problem.
That is what the course I am building aims to do.
The course is about 60% complete, but the biggest hurdles are getting all of the legal frameworks in place so that I can deliver this course appropriately but I am very confident we will get it done soon.
The course itself looks great.
It will have three major sections:
Understanding Heart Disease
Assessing Cardiovascular Risk
Reducing Cardiovascular Risk.
Each section will have multiple modules explaining all the necessary information and action steps you need to take either by yourself or with your doctor.
All of these segments will include a video with me explaining the key steps for each part of the process and also have downloadable slides and PDFs for you to work with.
There is so much great stuff.
To give an example of some of the topics covered:
Understanding Insulin Resistance & Metabolic Syndrome.
Thinking About Cardiovascular Risk in terms of odds.
Understanding Advanced Lipid Testing.
Appreciating The Differential and Combinational Impact Of Risk Factors.
Evaluating The Benefit Of Reducing Cardiovascular Risk AND Other Major Diseases, Including Cancer and Dementia.
This is only a tiny sample of what will be included in the course, but in essence, it will be a toolkit you can use that:
Gives a crystal clear explanation of heart disease (The problem you are trying to solve). Without this understanding, all efforts to reduce your risk are limited.
How to best assess your risk of heart disease in the short term (5-10 years) and also over your lifetime.
How to maximally reduce your lifetime risk of heart disease with a primary focus on the lifestyle measures needed but also how and when to think about medications, etc., if required.
This course is my way of giving you all I know about reducing your risk of heart disease.
It is my way of trying to help you navigate this problem wherever you are in the world.
It is my way of giving you the tools and strategies you can use by yourself and with your doctor as needed to reduce your risk of heart disease.
I am excited to get this course to you all as soon as possible.
Keep an eye out for updates in the coming months, and thank you again for all your support and feedback.
Have a great weekend.
Paddy
The course is slightly delayed because of a recent trip to Italy and a hunt for the Big Bad Wolf in the castles of Tuscany.
Just love that there are physicians like you and Mandrola (even if his podcast is supposed to be providers only) that offer clear explanations for heart disease, its causes and progression, and how to manage your risk profile when all you've got to go on are some bio markers and family history. We need more of this from social media, less of the hate.
Really looking forward to the book Dr. Paddy.....hurry up and find that wolf because we are not getting any younger and need all the weaponry available. Thank you for the highly readable , highly understandable articles and graphics.
