My own'creed' that I tried to live by was an less elaborate trio; I felt one should strive for work that was 1) interesting, 2) useful and 3) well paid.
If one could get two out of the three I reckoned to be doing pretty well. Few of us, I think, manage all three for any length of time, especially in the modern, over-managed surveillance work place.
