your post encouraged me to convert 2 box fans to primitive sm. particle filters by taping a MERV 17 fan to the back (intake side) of the fan. Not quite escape to the wilderness, but at the moment, the wilderness is burning!!

Spending time in the woods, forest, wilderness, or lake or ocean has so many health benefits and clear air. It’s truly essentially to get outside and breathe fresh air. Some of the dirtiest air is in people’s home. Nature is the Earth’s free medicine and therapy. Make an intention to get outside everyday. 🙏🏼

This is super interesting, thank you! Over the years, I've worked jobs downtown and jobs away from the city center. The jobs I've had downtown were always much more stressful. Fighting traffic to and from work. Finding a place to park and paying for it. Just walking on the street was often stressful dodging people and the noise of traffic. Panhandlers and pickpockets. Lunch places were way more crowded with longer wait times. I don't doubt the role of air pollution in CVD, but might pollution levels also be a geographic indicator of where the urban life is more stressful?

Location is a huge confounder which is why the study mentioned is so important. It cannot eliminate all confounders but does a reasonably good job

It depends. For instance, Miami is a crazy metropolitan city, but it has some of the cleanest air due to all the vegetation and greenery in the city. Since there really is not winter, the plants thrive all year and clean the air. Compare this to LA or Utah area where it’s super dry and cold in the desert. 🤗

Would you comment on the AQI we see on weather reports that give a number and a rating? I live in NYC, and the wildfire smoke was a thankful anomaly. But how dangerous if a 50/moderate for example?

Have a look here: https://www.iqair.com/air-quality-map . For each level it gives suggestions. It also very much depends on your own risk level - eg do you have a lung disease or heart disease already.
