Coming from a cardiologist - life span, health span and soul span as health is just amazing. Rarely you get to hear soul span along with health span and life span. Thanks Doc!

Love Dr. Paddy's mix of the philosophical with the medical- so often disconnected in our rushed and frenzied lives. Thanks Paddy- always a touchstone of what really matters.

Doctor

I just read the book "together" by Dr Vivek Murthy. Dr Vivek discusses a question: "do social relationships reduce our risk of dying early?". He then quotes a study that shows people with strong social relationships are 50 percent less likely to die prematurely than people with weak social relationships.

That begs a question to you: in addition to optimizing Life span, Health span and Soul span, do we need to consider Social span ?

Thanks

I would put this under the category of soul span. How we spend our time. Hopefully with people we care for.

Doc, If there's only one metric each for Health span, Life span and Soul span, what would that be?

For Health span, I guess it is obvious - the number of years we live (>80); for Life span, I am guessing its vo2max; for soul span, the number of people to whom we have made a meaningful impact - starting with the family, extended family, community and the world?

thanks

I think that's the beauty of the whole endeavour. Everyone gets to decide for themselves.
